Creative Operations is on the Rise
Balancing Tech Efficiency with Human Ingenuity
As highlighted in the 2025 Cella Report, creative operations are moving faster than ever. With marketing becoming increasingly digital-first, the push for more content—delivered at both high speed and high quality—is intensifying. However, it’s not just about moving quickly anymore. The real edge comes from working smarter, scaling effectively, and producing work that stands out.
According to the report, approximately three-quarters of creative work is tied to production—things like design adaptations (34%) and asset delivery (41%). That makes efficiency and scalability non-negotiables for teams. At the same time, the demand for specialized skills is climbing: video production expertise is expected to nearly double from last year’s levels (36% → 62%), with motion graphics (37%) and social media content (32%) also seeing a steady rise. This supports the increase of Creative Operations roles, posted across various job boards.

Design Ops vs Creative Ops
The Distinction Between the Two
As our industry evolves, new terms and functions are emerging to help teams work smarter, especially tied to operations. Two on the rise are DesignOps and CreativeOps. While they sound similar, they do play different roles — and here's the difference between the two.
- DesignOps focuses on the inner workings of product design. It’s about systems, libraries, and research processes that free UX and product designers to focus on solving user problems instead of managing logistics.
- CreativeOps looks at the bigger picture orchestration of creative work. It ensures cross-disciplinary teams — designers, copywriters, videographers, producers, and more — can align and deliver campaigns, content, and brand assets at scale.
The distinction comes down to scope: DesignOps zooms in on product design efficiency, while CreativeOps zooms out to manage creative production across the entire organization.
As creative operations continues to expand, having clarity on these roles will only become more important.
